Two sets of brothers are among the 25 players selected by USA Hockey to represent Team USA’s men’s ice hockey roster of players nominated for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, which will see the return of National Hockey League (NHL) players to the Olympic tournament.
Brady and Matthew Tkachuk and Quinn and Jack Hughes are set to wear the red, white, and blue in Milano; the Tkachuks and Quinn Hughes, in addition to Jack Eichel, Auston Matthews, and Charlie McAvoy, had previously been named as the first six players on Team USA’s preliminary roster in June.
Among the 19 others are two Olympians who participated at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 four years ago as college players: defencemen Brock Faber and Jake Sanderson.
In goal, Team USA have included Connor Hellebuyck, the winner of the Vezina Trophy for best NHL goaltender in each of the last two seasons, as well as Jeremy Swayman, who was the netminder during the USA’s winning run at the 2025 IIHF World Championship which ended a 92-year title drought.
Two players on the team have won the NHL’s most valuable player Hart Memorial Trophy (Matthews in 2022 and Hellebuyck in 2025), while between the 25 men, they have won five Stanley Cups and four IIHF World Championship titles.
It is a squad almost identical to the one that finished second at the 2025 NHL 4 Nations Face-Off, with the additions of Quinn Hughes and Tage Thompson, and two changes: Seth Jones replacing Adam Fox on the blueline and Clayton Keller replacing Chris Kreider among the forwards.
Team USA have appeared at 24 Olympic ice hockey tournaments, including the very first at the (summer) Olympic Games Antwerp 1920.
They have two golds, eight silvers, and one bronze medal – its most recent gold coming at Lake Placid 1980, when the famous “Miracle on Ice” game took place.
The U.S. last medalled at Vancouver 2010, winning silver.
As National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Winter Games, athletes’ participation at Milano Cortina 2026 depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at the Games.
